In brief
Cady was a homeopathic physician in New York and one of the early women doctors in America. Her lessons in “practical Christianity” first ran in Unity magazine in the 1890s and were collected as a book in 1896. It became Unity's foundational textbook and has sold more than 1.6 million copies.
Cady writes plainly. She describes God as the one presence and power in the universe, then shows how to apply that idea through denials, affirmations, and quiet prayer. The tone is devotional and warm, but the method is practical.
Key ideas
- God is the one presence and power, present in every person.
- Denials clear away false beliefs; affirmations state what is true.
- Faith works as a substance that takes form in experience.
- Spiritual understanding matters more than intellectual agreement.
Who it’s for
